This is Portugal’s national epic. Read it if you like – it is shorter than most epics I’ve read, adventurous in places, only tedious from my point of view towards the end. Virtue, valour and prudence of the Portuguese are contrasted with the scheming, materialistic Moslems whose defeat is inevitable.
